Year 2007 has obviously been action packed for all those people portrayed in the video!
The year has been interesting personally on many levels, the most significant being my affirmation to the essence of humanism. I have not written too much after starting a humanist blog, and it may well remain a placeholder at this point though a recent musing may manage to crawl out of my fingertips on to the blog in the new year, who knows, for new years do strange things to the laziest of us don't they, atleast for the first week or less.
An endeavor to reach a global audience with the message of Child Rights and You (CRY) took me back to Second Life, the most popular online virtual world. "Back" because I had registered a year ago out of short lived curiosity and discontinued irked and tired of frequent crashes of the second life client and lack of useful activity. This time around, it was pleasantly different. No, the crashes do continue to exist may be a little less frequently. But what made a difference this time was the larger non-profit presence in Second Life thanks to a conglomeration called Nonprofit Commons run by Techsoup. CRY now has an office at the Nonprofit Commons Island in Second Life besides other projects to be unveiled soon. That and some wonderful folks I met through Second Life like "Johnny Austin" (SL Avtar name) of Joysco Studio, "Coughran Mayo" of Preferred Family Healthcare, "Zeus Zetkin" of Indusgeeks, "Parhelion Palou" and many others. I also came across the SL Humanism group which meets sundays 2pm at the Humanism Garden in SL.
On a creative note, I started an oil painting of a ballet dancer and I promise to post it here if I ever finish it! I must proclaim that I finally learnt the art of tatting and made a basic flower. Will I tat large laces like my mother someday? Someday. Oh and there was that other project, that that and that.
On a somewhat wacky note, I dared into a dance studio and learnt a few salsa moves. I stopped just when I was starting to just about like the spanish rhythm. Another activity shelved for another day.
On a social note, my online network on Orkut brought back some long lost school friends and new connections with neices and nephews (all grown up...gosh should i feel old!!) I jumped on the linkedin, facebook and esnips bandwagon, mostly dormant membership at this point. Friends were abound throughout the year, and I am indeed fortunate to have some great friends to hang with.
There were a few significant other miscellanea that I can certainly smile about.
Forward looking at 2008, I pulled out this 2007 NY post from the archives and realized i had quite forgotten to follow up on the inspiration. :-) ReVolution it is, in 2008 for sure! :-)
And now for the few who dare tread this blog once in a while, Happy New Year and may be you can resolve to come by more often? ;-)
